Q: How do you "emit a real Bronx cheer"?
I understand that that the whoopee cushion hasn't been re-designed since its launch in 1932. I'd like to track this down as it's something of a design and comedy classic but at the moment I can't even locate a company which will own up to making the pesky things. Anyone got any leads?
The largest simultaneous Whoopee Cushion Sit saw a total of 1,372 people sit on whoopee cushions simultaneously at the Gala opening of the 2003 Brighton Comedy Festival on October 10, 2003, according to the Guinness Book of Records. |

And a reverse Whoopee Cushion:

Everyone is talking about the
Flatulence Filter®/TooT TrappeR®
The Flatulence Filter™, a chair cushion air filter, may rescue people from the embarrassment of passing gas around others. The cushion looks like a regular chair cushion, but it instantly absorbs the odor of intestinal gas. It contains an activated carbon air filter to absorb the odor. The air filter in the Flatulence Filter™ is designed to absorb odors for at least six to 12 months. The inventor of the devise is a man who was bothered by excessive intestinal gas related to diabetes, and his wife suggested that he invent something . |
I bet she did.

This just in:
| Quote: | Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo broke the record for the largest simultaneous whoopee cushion sit during their homecoming football game, raising money and awareness for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
“It was great for the Kidney Foundation and for the message for organ donation,” says Brian Breckles, director for Alumni Relations at Laurier.
On Sept. 25, 5,421 whoopee cushions were passed out to the spectators between the first and second quarters of the football game between the Laurier Golden Hawks and the McMaster Marauders in University Stadium. During halftime, the crowd placed the whoopee cushions on their seats and simultaneously let one go.
Although registration handouts sent around the stadium after the event show that there were 2,873 participants, Breckles says he believes the number is actually much higher, because he says people started to leave the game before the registration forms were handed out.
Officials are now trying to get more names of the people involved before they send the number off to the Guinness Book of World Records to be officially recorded.
If the Guinness Book of World Records recognizes this event, Laurier will break the record last set in England of 1,372 participants in a simultaneous whoopee cushion sit. |

| Are you sure, Jenny? Toysmith has only existed since 1982, and anyway I can't find any mention of the whoopee cushion on that site. Also it seems to be a distribution company rather than a manufacturer. |

I've seen evidence for self-inflating whoopee cusions and remote-controlled whoopee cushions (although these latter are merely electronic fart-boxes). The former is definitely an update, though - it gives the opportunity for repeat 'trumpolining' as it's called (the things you learn...)
The world's largest whoopee cushion was used in Comic Relief 2005. |

Having followed the World record link I have only two things to add:
There is a world record for a simultaneous "whoopie" quoted, which seems to be at odds to Flash's post:
| Quote: | ...according to Guinness the record is still held by the Quad City Mallards.
The Quad City Mallards, a member of the United Hockey League, achieved the
record for the largest simultaneous whoopee cushion sit with 3,614 participants
at Moline, Illinois, USA on March 19, 2004 |
And from the man who made the world's largest cushion

Looks like Wilfred Laurier was working off an out-of-date Book of Records, like me. How frustrating for them.
Jenny, I see what you're referring to, but I think they must just mean that's the distributor who supplies them. |
