The Furry Sexuality Survey
A survey into the sexuality of the furry fandom, the fandom of anthropomorphic animals, has been published.
The survey, the first of its kind, was designed to study the sexual aspect of the fandom. This is of great interest to furry fans, better known as "Furries", as it tends to be the sexual side of the fandom which is covered most in the media. Several furries dislike the way that that the media stereotypes them, usually depicting them as homosexual and having a fondness of having sex in unusual ways, such as dressed up as animals. Although others welcome the coverage as it increases the fandom's publicity.
The results, which asked questions to nearly 200 furries (mostly men), asked questions covering different sexual aspects. One question covered sexual orientation. The results stated that most furries are bisexual (32.81%), with heterosexuality coming second (30.73%) and homosexuality coming third (23.96%). This result will be of no surprise to furries, as two previous studies covering the furry fandom in general (one in 1997, another in 2007) showed the same order. The poll went on to say that 56.25% of furries were not in a relationship and that 31.77% were in relationship with another furry.
The survey also revealed that just over half of furries considered media representations of them to be biased (52.60%), with only 9.38% believing that the media was not biased. The rest showed no concern towards the issue or had no opinion.
The poll went on to cover different fetishes. Quite interestingly, the poll claimed that nearly two-thirds of furries (61.98%) considered themselves to be fetishists. Although an editorial note was added claiming that this figure may be high because the survey seemed to be aimed directly at fetishists within the furry fandom. Popular fetishes voted for by those taking part included bondage and enslavement, while the least popular were scat (faeces) and snuff (death).
Also, 81.25% of furries claimed to enjoy furry pornography (known as "Yiff"), but 43.75% claimed they had not told anyone outside the fandom about their fondness for it. Just over 40% of furries claim to have created their own yiff. Nearly 30% claimed there was too much yiff in the fandom, although 36.98% where not concerned about it or had no opinion on the matter.
The furry sexuality survey was created and carried out by a furry called "The Chained Wolf", or to give him his real name, "Ian Dunn".
